À qui appartient le riz basmati ? – niveau 1

Le basmati est un riz célèbre et cher. Il pousse dans une région située entre l’Inde et le Pakistan. Cette région s’appelle le Pendjab.
Les deux pays veulent que le nom « basmati » leur soit réservé au sein de l’UE. Une appellation spéciale rapporte beaucoup d’argent et offre une protection. L’Inde a demandé en premier à l’UE de lui accorder ce nom, puis le Pakistan a fait de même. Mais les deux pays ne se parlent pas pour régler le problème. Comme il n’y a pas encore de règle, plein d’entreprises vendent du faux riz basmati partout dans le monde. Près de 90 % du riz basmati vendu en magasin ne vient pas du Pendjab.
Si l’Europe ne se décide pas rapidement, l’appellation « Basmati » risque de ne plus avoir d’importance.
